Wholesome Fiction for Teens and Tweens

Finding clean, Christian adult fiction is hard - in a world where X-rated graces our library shelves, we know that. But what you wouldn't expect is the increasing difficulty to find teen and young adult fiction that is clean, wholesome, and God-honoring.

That's why my friend Kads put together this list of her top recommendations for young readers (or readers of any age, really). From timeless classics like A Wrinkle in Time and The Little House on the Prairie to modern literary hits like A Series of Unfortunate Events, every single one of the books or series on her list are clean and most are inspirational.

I grew up in a time when not only were my parents very conscientious about what I read (as parents ought to be), but the selection of books to choose from were all fairly clean. From Junie B. Jones to Nancy Drew to the Left Behind Kids series, my childhood was full of clean and Christian fiction. That's what I had on hand, what was found in my library, what I was drawn to.

Nowadays (which is admittedly only ten-to-twelve years into the future), children are reading books about homosexuality and transgenderism. Children. Not just adults and teenagers. I'm talking CHILDREN.

This is unacceptable, which is why we need to support content that is morally upright, inspirational, wholesome, and most importantly, Christian. What we read as children shapes our tastes as adults, our relationships with our friends and family, our attitudes and actions, our perspective of the world then, and our worldview as we grow older.

I invite you to recommend some of your favorite childhood books in the comments, ones that positively shaped your worldview and inspired you to grow closer to God! Maybe try out a few of the books Kads suggested, or recommend them to a friend. Do whatever you can to not only write wholesome Christian fiction, but support others who do!

With love and blessings always,

Grace

So true! It's so sad to see so many YA books filled with immorality. One good suggestion that jumped to my mind is a YA book I read recently, Fortune's Fall by Katherine Barger. It was super engaging and very clean. Definitely would recommend!

Growing up, I really liked Nancy Drew, The Hardy Boys, and The Boxcar Children. :)

Wow!!! That is so true!!! The lack of good, clean MG and YA books is one of the reasons we love writing in that genre. Our parents, mainly our dad, was the one who provided all the books for us growing up. Hand picked by him, so until recently most of what we read was older or classic literature. But in the past year we've started checking things out at the library and are just astounded at what passes in these genres, it's sickening!

Okay, for some of our favorites....we were not gonna repeat any of the books Kads had on her list...though the Green Ember Series is one of our all-time favorites!
